Learn more about Erica

Meet Erica Pepper! Erica’s full-time career is and has always been in private country clubs, once you have spent some time with her you will see why hospitality is the perfect fit to her poised, gracious personality. She spent ten years of her youth dancing her way around her small southern town. She was trained in tap, en pointe, jazz, acrobats, modern ballet and clogging. During her youth adult years she was a state champion weightlifter in Florida, captain of her cheer team, and a tennis player. In search of continuing her active lifestyle she went to a globo gym, Zumba classes, biked, swam, and rollerbladed, but nothing struck her fancy. Erica finally found power yoga and knew that it was the beginning of an activity she could do on a regular basis without getting bored. Power yoga highlighted her strength and was a solution to calming her mind. After a year of yoga she began to dabble in CrossFit, she fell head over heals in love with the sport. Erica never thought her weightlifting history would be relevant but it was a perfect resurrection for this amazing sport sweeping the hearts of the world. Erica’s passion for sharing the love of CrossFit and continuing education prompted her to become a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. She loves CrossFIt, yoga, paleo cooking, pinning, planning events and most of all, socializing!

Kirby Gusso

Coach

Learn more about Kirby

I do CrossFit and coach CrossFit may not be as typical as one might think.  However, the answer is simple. I am a CrossFit Coach and athlete to glorify God. As I was departing the Marine Corps, I was talking with one of my good friends, Trevor Young, and I told him that I want to speak about God from a platform of CrossFit.  Almost a year and some change later, I am still here and CrossFit Port Royal Sound coaching and as a competitive athlete by the Grace of God and nothing else. For me, it’s not about what CrossFit has done for me, it is about what God has done for me. And He has blessed me with CrossFit, and He continues to bless me on a daily basis though the smiling faces and determined men and women who come through our doors here at CrossFit Port Royal Sound.  It is a blessing to see what God, through CrossFit, has done for every single person here at CrossFit Port Royal Sound. He, through Coach Barry Pepper, has built a wonderful community dedicated to taking people where there at to help them become the best possible version of themselves, no matter what the obstacles.

It has been an honor and a privilege to work for my Coach Barry Pepper, and I am so blessed that God let me run into him.  I am equally thankful for Coach Noel and Coach Jason Wallace who God also placed in my path to help teach me the craft of CrossFit.  Through these wonderful men, God has made me into the athlete and the coach that I am today and continue to learn to be. I can take no credit for the wonderful blessings He has bestowed upon me.   Every time somebody thanks me for coaching class, or somebody says great job in the WOD Kirby, I know that God has been right here with me, every step of the way. Every time somebody walks out of their one hour of the day here at PRS with a smile on their face, God let’s me know that this is right where I need to be.  Thank you to all of you who call PRS your home, it’s been a wonderful journey so far, and by the Grace of God I pray I will continue to see your smiling faces and many attained goals for years to come. This is why I do CrossFit.

Angie Crumpton

Coach

Learn more about Angie

When she was young, Angie was always doing something, searching for the next challenge in life. She was a cheerleader, played softball, but mostly was a tomboy who loved trying to outdo her brothers. Later in life she drove dirt track race cars her father built, rode dirt bikes with her brothers and loved to see what new things, and trouble, they could get into.
As an adult, she fell in love with her career and has spent the past 18 years as a law enforcement officer. Never settling for the easy route, she worked out in the field, often dealing with the worst society has to offer. During this time, she has seen the struggle of our youth and the consequences of their poor decisions and environment.
Just over two years ago, Angie was searching for something a bit more challenging for her fitness and found CrossFit. It was “love at first sight.” The individual challenge and the community aspects of the sport had her hooked. After seeing the improvements in her own confidence, the sense of belonging and desire to make healthier choices, she soon saw the potential for our youth. She obtained her Level 1 Trainer Certificate and soon after obtained her CrossFit Kids Trainer Certificate.
Working with the children, especially those who need a little extra help with confidence, is important to Angie. She believes that when provided with a healthy alternative and a supportive community to turn to, children are less likely to seek the acceptance of peers involved in gangs, drugs or other illegal activities. Their involvement in the CrossFit community and specifically the CrossFit Kids programs will provide a sense of confidence and self worth most kids struggle with as they approach adolescence. They learn it is more important to be healthy, rather than “skinny” and boys and girls are equals.
If you ever wonder how this program can help your child with so much more than just their physical health, ask Angie. She will be glad to share her beliefs and the benefits she has already seen in those kids who se works with!

Erin Goguen

Director of Personal Training

Learn more about Erin

Erin always knew that a career in fitness was what she was destined to do. From the age of 5 until she found out she was pregnant with her daughter, Sydney, Erin played soccer. She played township and school soccer as a kid, then moved up to Women’s and Coed Leagues as an adult. In between, Erin constantly stayed active, whether it was riding bikes or playing in various sports pick up games. After earning her degree in Exercise Physiology in 2000, Erin started teaching Physical Education at a local high school and coached the Varsity Boys Soccer Team, before moving to Georgia to become an Exercise Physiologist at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. There she worked with clients that were discharged from physical therapy to help continue their rehabilitation. After leaving Georgia and moving to Florida, Erin took a position as a Personal Trainer with a well-known Florida based gym. There she continued personal training both at the gym and in home. For the last 20 years Erin has helped her clients reach their goals.

She has a love for running and working out. It wasn’t until recently that she needed more of a challenge and change in her workout routines, so she started CrossFit and it was “love at first lift”.

Tina Lang

Nutrition Coach

Learn more about Tina
Born and raised in South Carolina. I Married my high school sweetheart and gave birth to three of life’s greatest blessings. By typical standards I spent most of my life overweight. With each new baby and years of marital bliss I packed on the unwanted pounds. After my family was complete, I finally had had enough. I had spiraled down the typical road looking for every quick fix there could be. Prescription diet pills, appetite suppressants, cleanses, meal replacement shakes….I tried it all! It wasn’t until I found my own nutrition coach that I got real with myself. I turned my focus to real foods and actually put my own health on my priority list.  These days I approach nutrition in a more holistic way, empowering others to use food as medicine. Fuel your body to live your best life. Don’t just diet, eat according to your goals. Respect your body, fuel your body and move your body.
Having someone who has “been there, done that” to assist you on your journey creates a partnership for success!
For someone who loves to cook that is hard. My favorite easy meal prep meal would be-
Egg roll in a bowl
1 lb of lean ground beef/turkey or venison browned
1 bag of shredded coleslaw mix
1 bunch of green onions
Ground ginger and garlic
A few dashes of soy sauce or liquid aminos and salt and pepper
Mix all any enjoy with a serving of jasmine rice
