Mites (age 4-8)
The Mites program is our youth program for 5-8 year olds and sets our young ones up for success in the Junior Varsity and Varsity programs. We work on both physical and cognitive development disguised as games and short skill practice sessions. Mites work on moving our little ones through space, teaching them how their bodies work, developing vestibular systems, working in teams, what healthy competition looks like and how to follow directions.
A typical day in a Mites class may look a little something like this:
Rousing round of duck duck goose followed by red light green light with a twist then we’ll move on to simon says and add a new implement every day. After our game time we’ll move into skill development which varies every week and may look like learning to climb a rope or wall walks or any other challenging movement. We’ll finish up with a game of “500” or toilet tag and an obstacle course that will challenge balance, coordination and speed. If there’s any time left over the MItes may choose an activity or take the chance to just run wild and be silly in a safe environment.
Junior Varsity (ages 8-13)
This class focuses on continued development in a fun environment. We build on the balance, healthy movement patterns, speed, agility, and cooperation from the younger class. We also begin to work on adding some light equipment into our movement patterns, technique work, as well as accuracy, flexibility, coordination, bodyweight strength, core strength, endurance, and goal-setting. This is the age group where we start to introduce workouts and begin to touch on nutrition. We end each day with a game or two where we keep the kids minds and bodies active while working toward excellent teamwork and leadership skills.
Your Kids will learn to love fitness, nutrition, and will learn good motor patterns for functional movement that will benefit them for a lifetime and create the safest foundation for sports and training programs in their future. They will also benefit from coaches who have been trained/certified in how movement affects academics, healthy social interactions, problem-solving and a positive growth mindset. We will actively work to help your kids in each of these areas.
Varsity (ages 13-17)
This class takes all of the fundamental movement patterns, base strength, mobility, and team development and starts to ramp things up toward specific athlete goals. We add serious strength training, cross-training, gymnastics, and agility as well as we work through our “Level system” – 6 levels of movement challenges. Our focus is on excellent form above all else. We still have a ton of fun but no longer incorporate kid-type games at the end of each class. In addition, each season’s session ends with a specific challenge. Past challenges have included joining an adult WOD, a 5k, a hero WOD or other named WOD, and a Crossfit competition.
